Peer moves ahead at Citi Open

Shahar Peer sealed her place in the quarter finals of the Citi Open with a routine win over Russia's Alla Kudryavtseva. The Israeli was speedily into her stride and rarely gave her challenger a sniff as she claimed a 6-1 6-4 win.

There were also easy outings for the third and eight seeds, Tamira Paszek and Alberta Brianti. Austrian Paszek strolled to a 6-3 6-1 win over American qualifier Madison Brengle, while Italy's Brianti was even more forceful in beating another American, Varvara Lepchenko, 6-1 6-2.

In other match, Canada's Stephanie Dubois beat British No.2 Heather Watson 3-6 7-5 6-1.Watson had her chances - she changed just one of 10 break points in the second set. There was further dissatisfaction for Watson as she lost her doubles quarter-final with Anne Keothavong 7-5 6-3 against Olga Govortsova and Alla Kudryavtseva.
