The new world number one will face Sweden's Ervin Eleskovic ranked 355 - in the second rubber in Halmstad after partner Viktor Troicki has taken on Michael Ryderstedt. Saturday's doubles rubber is due to see Simon Aspelin and Robert Lindstedt side to face Janko Tipsarevic and Nenad Zimonjic.
Serbia, the cup holders, is favourites to beat a Swedish side shorn of their top player, Robin Soderling, in the quarter-final tie. Meanwhile, France has opted to rest Wimbledon semi-finalist Jo-Wilfried Tsonga on today for their clash in Germany.
