Saina Nehwal moves into Second round


World No 4 Saina Nehwal began her battle at the Indonesia Open Super Series with an easy 21-12 21-10win over Bulgarian Linda Zechiri, The Indonesian Open holds fond recollections for Saina. It was here that she won her first-ever Super Series, in 2009. Last year, it capped a dream run of three big titles that saw her appear as one of the biggest stars of modern badminton.

Saina will be battling a mini-crisis. She has won just one tournament the Swiss Open back in March, What will be cheering is her recent wins over several of the top Chinese, including world champion Wang Lin, world No 2 Wang Xin, and former top-10 player Lu Lan.

Meanwhile, in the men’s singles, qualifier Ajay Jayaram lost to Peter gade 24-22 21-12. In other matches of the day, Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponnappa beat Lotte Jonathans and Paulien Van Dooremalen 21-17 21-17 and Rupesh Kumar and Sanave Thomas lost to Anthony Clark Chris Langridge (Eng) 18-21 21-17 21-16.
