Ferrer reaches Swedish Open quarters

David Ferrer advanced to the quarter-finals of the Swedish Open on a rain-hit day which required the delay of a number of second-round matches. When Ferrer lastly got on court he dispatched fellow Spaniard Pere Riba 6-2 7-6 (7-4) in a match lasting just over two hours, saving all four of the break points against him.

Slovenia's Blaz Kavcic advanced to a last eight meeting with Tomas Berdych when his scheduled second round challenger, Argentina's Juan Monaco, withdrew with a foot injury. Austria's Andreas Haider-Maurer and Italian Filippo Volandri returned late in the evening after a rain delay, the former existing 6-3 7-6 (9/7).
