Yusuf in, Dravid out of 30 WC probables

The BCCI named all-rounder Yusuf Pathan and off-spinner R. Ashwin but overlooked veteran batsman Rahul Dravid and Robin Uthappa in the list of 30 probables for the ICC World Cup in 2011, which was announced by the BCCI selection committee in Mumbai on Saturday.Pathan, who has been in outstanding form in the domestic tour and hit his maiden ton in the recently finished ODI series against New Zealand, was a front-runner to be included in the probables' list. However, his out-of-favour brother Irfan Pathan was overlooked.R. Ashwin too was paid for his recent success at the international level with a place among the probables.

Ashish Nehra, Pragyan Ojha, Ravindra Jadeja, R Ashwin, Amit Mishra, Parthiv Patel, Rohit Sharma, Saurabh Tiwary, Dinesh Karthik, Piyush Chawla, Wriddhiman Saha and Cheteshwar Pujara were some of the other notable players part of the 30-man list. It may turn out to be a three-way fight for a reserve wicketkeeper's place among Parthiv, Karthik and Saha if the selectors and MS Dhoni want another glovesman in the party. The fight for the leg-spinner's spot will be between Amit Mishra and Piyush Chawla but the latter's all-round skills may tilt the scale in his favour.

Veteran Rahul Dravid and explosive batsman Robin Uthappa, though, were unlucky to miss out but Uthappa's omission is probable to raise more eyebrows, keeping in mind his wicketkeeping skills."I am very confident that the team would do well in the upcoming matches," said the chief selector K Srikkanth."No surprises as players selected themselves. Team has been chosen on merit. We've got 30 marvels. We have one more month to select the final team," he added.Effectively, though, only 4-5 places are up for grabs as India wears a settled look as far as playing XI for the World Cup is concerned.
