Elsewhere Shuai Peng saw off Shahar Peer, Nadia Petrova beat Christina McHale and Andrea Petkovic defeated Petra Kvitova. Second seed and favourite Vera Zvonareva coasted to a 6-2 6-2 win over Petra Martic.
